The National Catholic Education Commission (NCEC) has commenced working with a number of Catholic systems across the country, in partnership with Ochre Education, a national Australian not-for-profit organisation, to deliver comprehensive curriculum resources for Years 7 and 8 mathematics teachers in Catholic schools.

The Mastery in Mathematics project will work collaboratively with around 40 Catholic school expert secondary mathematics teachers to develop resources for 2024. The project will deliver three strands of work:

  • curriculum maps to support schools’ planning
  • adaptable and editable classroom materials
  • professional learning to support teachers to implement resources with rigour and fidelity.

This will include around 240 lessons, and additional resources to support intervention for Year 7 and 8 students who have gaps in foundational numeracy skills. All Ochre lessons embed high-impact teaching practices. Resources will be mapped to the Australian Curriculum Version 9.0, the new NSW Syllabus, and the Victorian Curriculum version 2.0.

The teachers working with Ochre to develop resources will be drawn from the pilot dioceses in South Australia, ACT, Victoria and New South Wales and will be employed directly by Ochre to complete the development work flexibly outside of school-hours in development sprints in Term 4 2023, and Terms 1 and 2 2024.
